Articles change following the gender (masculine, feminine, neutral) and depending the case (nominative, genitive, accusative). There are also plural forms for the definite article.
The following rules just explain in which basic situation an article can (or cannot) be omitted.
Indefinite article:
The indefinite article is omitted a lot in greek language.
In particular when it means "any" or "some" or equivalent.
- δεν έχω ιδέα / I have no idea
But if the indefinite article means "one" then it cannot be omitted.
- έχω μια ιδέα / I have one idea
Definite article:
The definite article is always used.
- το σπίτι είναι όμορφο / The house is beautiful
There are also definite articles in front of proper names:
- ο Αλέξανδρος / Alexandre
- η Φοτεινή / Foteini
